Cody’s Story
My sweet, feisty little boy is about to turn 14 years old on May 12, 2024. Cody came to me when he was six months old, with a cough/gag that has persisted throughout his life. He didn’t have a collapsing trachea but I knew he had some issues. I wasn’t sure if it was allergies or what and really never got a definitive diagnosis. He was actually, hospitalized twice with a very high fever and could not eat. I didn’t get a real diagnosis either time. They just treated him in the hospital and he was able to come home. His cough was so bad and there was no relief for him, even when they gave him hydrocodone. This cough has been a struggle, since day one and Dr. Travis at Foothill Animal Hospital in Upland, was the only one who really helped him. He still has the cough but it’s not nearly as bad as it has been over the past 13 years.
Cody has always been tiny at 3.5 pounds for most of his life, yet his heart and mind are the size of a Great Dane. We have been through so much together and I can’t imagine life without him. Last year, Dr Travis diagnosed Cody with an enlarged heart, kidney disease, and thyroid disease and I thought he had very little time left. He was lethargic and out of breath and didn’t want to go on his walks anymore anymore. He slept a lot and went days without eating, My goal was to make him comfortable, happy and try to get him to his 14th birthday.
Dr Travis is the only vet that has been able to help him with his cough. He was not diagnosed with any of these diseases prior to seeing Dr. Travis. It was confirmed with bloodwork and x-rays, etc... At first she put him on prescription dog food for the kidney disease, and as much as Cody liked it, he still went for days without eating. Being a small as he is, it was a constant worry for me and I could tell he just did not feel well. When he went in for his last bloodwork, it was worse on the prescription food. We talked about it and she suggested Chi Dog. I had heard about this food from a pet care client of mine, who has a little dog with a sensitive tummy and this food has been helpful to him I decided to do some research on this food and I thought I would try it. I ordered the Water Diet specifically for Cody, but I also ordered the Fire Diet and the Metal Diet for JoJo and JT. All three of my dogs have been on Chi dog food since September 2023. My boys have always had sensitive stomachs, so it hasn’t been easy to find a food that all three of them can eat and not get sick. I can’t even tell you how successful this food has been for my three and especially for Cody. He has eaten very regularly without skipping meals for quite some time. There is an occasion when he does, but I know exactly how to treat it and he’s eating soon after. But I would say for the past two months he has not skipped a meal. My other two, have not skipped a meal for six months and that is so unusual, especially for JoJo, who suffered from pancreatitis I never promote any kind of dog food, medicine, treats or anything because as dog owners (parents), we all do the best we can in deciding what food to feed our dogs. As the say, “it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. So, if the dog food you’re feeding your dogs is working for them, God bless them!
You all know that I have a pet care business and I never sell anything on my website, but I am putting this dog food on my website because I believe it has helped my dogs more than any other dog food I’ve tried and trust me, I’ve tried them all. I’ve tried three or four of the homemade food that is out there, raw food, prescription food, and other highly recommended dog foods and at some point, they would turn their noses up at the food or have tummy aches. I’ve also cooked for them and I could not get the recipe to work for all three of them and they continually had upset tummies. There is a very sacred balance in dog food recipes that works for your dogs and you have to find that correct balance of nutrients, proteins, fats and carbohydrates. It’s such a complex thing. I’m going to put the link to the menus on my website and Chi Dog, below, so you can do some reading if you’d like.
You can message me if you have any questions.
I am so excited that Cody’s birthday is coming soon. I’m hoping to have a big celebration for him. This is a big birthday for us. I honestly didn’t think he would still be here. God is good!
